Ritu Menon


Ritu Menon (Jury Chair) is a feminist publisher and writer, co-founder of Kali for Women, Asia’s first feminist press. She has been active in the women’s movement in India, across South Asia and internationally for over 25 years, and has written and published widely on gender issues over the last three decades.

She is the author (with Kamla Bhasin) of the ground-breaking book, Borders & Boundaries: Women in India’s Partition; of Unequal Citizens: A Study of Muslim Women in India (with Zoya Hasan); of the critically acclaimed Out of Line: A Literary & Political Biography of Nayantara Sahgal; editor of Making a Difference: Memoirs from the Women’s Movement in India; and of numerous anthologies of women’s fiction and poetry. She is on the boards of various national and international organizations, and was awarded the Padma Shri by the Govt. of India in 2011.
